The guy behind the camera, a little creative, a little quirky.  He got to SP by "quitting is day job:"  PR director, magazine editor and partner in a design firm.  His imagination and creative insight reach far beyond that of "a normal person." Erik will do whatever it takes to get the shot, whether that means wading neck deep in a tropical river or trekking through the Nevada desert with a crew of 40 people. His pictures aren't worth a 1000 words - they'll leave you speechless.

Erik will share a portfolio of projects that demonstrate the partnerships between designers, photographers, writers and clients that is critical in the success of a project. How do all individuals in the process get what they want, share their ideas, work through the creative and still like each other in the end. Work through the creative process can be agonizing, but in the end, the reward far outreaches the long, long, timeline that it may have endured.

Do you deserve media coverage? Do you have a great story to share? Of course you do! The problem, is that so does everyone else. So, the question is, how do you make a pitch to the media that gets the attention it deserves? Attend this interactive session with Jeff Ray, KBCI Television and The Idaho Statesman, to learn how to make your pitch be heard and seen.

Jeff is a veteran anchor and investigative reporter known for his aggressive, unyielding interview style. He won broadcasting's version of the Pulitzer Prize, the Alfred I. duPont Silver Baton, for helping expose widespread corruption at Boise City Hall.

Jeff has worked in Seattle, Portland, Spokane and Boise covering many of the region's biggest stories including the Ruby Ridge Standoff, the Arrest of the Unabomber and the Green River Killings.

In addition to the duPont, Jeff has won three Emmys and two national Edward R. Murrow/RTNDA awards.

Branding, Integrated Marketing-Creating a Compelling Instutitional Image and Brand

Learn how EWU conducted The Image, Marketing Communications and Academic Perceptions (IMAP) survey, an in-house, exclusively online instrument distributed to approximately 29,000 EWU alumni, students, prospective students, faculty, staff and nonalumni. Hear about the innovative ways they engaged participants to complete the survey resulting in an astounding 20% response rate.

Dave Sonntag is the associate director for external relations at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash. His position establishes and maintains a strong and distinct image for the University, plans and executes communications strategies that create a foundation of awareness for Eastern across the region and works to integrate all of the University's communications efforts. Dave brings expertise from the private sector through eight years of experience as a consultant with regional marketing communications firms working with clients such as General Motors, Itron, American Optometric Association, Sacred Heart Medical Center and Central Washington University. Dave is also this year's CASE's Rising Star in Communications recipient for 2007.

In an effort to maximize giving among alumni non-donors, Whitworth College delved into variable data in a big way last spring, stretching the technology while employing the full creativity of in-house annual giving and design staff along with variable data printing and mailing expertise from Imago Digital. See how Whitworth was able to send affordable and effective mailings to thousands of alumni personalized by their academic major, era of attendance and giving history.
 
Tad Wisenor is director of annual giving, alumni, parent and church relations at Whitworth College, where he has served since 1992. He is an adjunct instructor in the department of Communication Studies and holds a master’s degree in urban and regional planning.

Greg Orwig has served as director of communications at Whitworth College since 1999. He previously worked as a newspaper reporter in Arizona and Texas and as a media relations manager at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and the University of Washington.

Michael Hurley is an account executive and variable data specialist for Imago Digital, an Irvine, Calif., firm affiliated with MMi and specializing in variable data printing and print-on-demand solutions. He has more than 20 years of experience in printing and database administration.

From publications to word of mouth - how do you sell your university and comprehensive campaigns? The key to a successful campaign or marketing piece is communicating the message. Attend a fun session that combines new ideas, old style grammer and persuasive writing techniques that will assist with financial support, an increase in enrollment and ultimately branding of your university. Come, have fun, ask questions and learn the good, the bad and the ugly.

Since graduating from Eastern Washington University in 1980 with a degree in journalism, Pat Spanjer has been working in the communications field, with assignments in writing, editing, public relations, marketing, advertising and fundraising. She returned to her alma mater in 2004 as a writer and editor in University Relations and began serving in January as assistant director of annual giving in Alumni Relations and Annual Giving.

With the founding of Snavely Associates about a quarter-century ago, Larry established a legacy of inviting talented individuals to be part of his staff—people who each make a valuable contribution and share responsibility for the business’s as well as the clients’ success. Larry’s longevity and breadth of experience have made him an expert in the strategic communications field, allowing him to effectively serve clients of all kinds—public and private, large and small, religious and secular, major research universities and independent schools.

A dedicated community volunteer for most of his professional life, Larry received an local award for extraordinary volunteerism in recognition of his contributions to non-profit agencies. He actively participates on several community organization boards including the Centre County United Way and The Second Mile. He has also served on the boards of the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, Habitat for Humanity, Leadership Centre County, and the State College Area Family YMCA.

Larry holds a bachelor’s degree in government from Beloit College. He was co-publisher in 1985 of State College, the magazine, which was sold in 1990 and continues to this day.
