Elizabeth Ginsberg, Director of Advancement at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University will present a case study of how Harvard's Kennedy School of Government has quadrupled the alumni fund over the past three years. Ms. Ginsberg will explain how they achieved this remarkable fourfold growth, and then outline the next challenges on the School's horizon. Expect a highly interactive discussion of complex unintended consequences, cultural change, and squeaky wheels.

Elizabeth (Betsy) Ginsberg joined the Kennedy School of Government external affairs team in February 2001. She came to Harvard from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, where she had worked since 1996, first as Associate Director and then as Director of External Affairs. In the latter position, Betsy oversaw all fundraising and alumni relations and served on the Dean’s "cabinet" (senior management team), under then-Dean John R. Galvin, formerly NATO SACEUR.

Prior to her service at the Fletcher School, Betsy spent four years on the development staff at Boston’s Deaconess Hospital, where her efforts contributed to the construction of a $200 million state-of-the-art clinical center. Before settling in Boston, Betsy worked at the Stamford, Connecticut-based fundraising consulting firm of Brakeley, John Price Jones Inc. She got her start in fundraising at the Gimbel Estate in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Betsy received her bachelor’s degree at Brown University in comparative literature. She has lived in Mexico and France and is conversant in Spanish and French. Betsy now lives in Medford, Massachusetts with her husband and two young children. She volunteers in the public school PTO and in the Appalachian Mountain Club’s rock climbing activities, and plays the bassoon in the Harvard Musical Association orchestra and in various chamber ensembles.
