At February's annual district conference, the 2010 Distinguished Service Award was presented to both Mark Kemball of Oregon Health & Science University and Pat Squire of Portland State University.

Pat Squire and Mark KemballAnnually, this award is given to honor District VIII members that have demonstrated notable service to not only the institutional advancement profession but also to the district itself. Both Kemball and Squire have been long-time volunteers and supporters of CASE through work at both the district and national level. Kemball was Chair of the district board from 2001-2003, and also served on the CASE National Commission on Communications & Marketing between 2006-2009. Squire served on the CASE National Commission on Alumni Relations between 2001-2003, and was then Chair of the district board from 2003-2005. Each also served a multitude of roles in numerous annual district conferences-- from program planning to presenting.

"The CASE District VIII Board is very pleased to be able to recognize the amazing work of Mark and Pat ,” said Cheryl Nations, chair-elect of the district and also head of the Awards Committee. “Between them they occupied the three senior District Boards positions for a decade, providing valuable continuity and consistency of leadership in a district that spans five US States and seven Canadian provinces."

Ray Au, the current chair of the district board added, “The committee’s decision to give this award to them jointly was not a difficult decision. Mark and Pat have served this district in every way imaginable and both are incredibly deserving — and we knew that there was no way they would have accepted the award otherwise. That’s how selfless they are”
